St John Chrysostom

On the Blind and Mute Demoniac (Matthew 12:22–23)

O wickedness of the evil spirit! he had barred up both entrances, whereby that person should have believed, as well sight as hearing; nevertheless, both did Christ open.

not even this did they endure: to such a degree ... are they ever stung by the good works done to their neighbors, and nothing grieves them so much as the salvation of men. ... the evil spirit was not so indignant as they. For he indeed departed from the body, and gave place and fled away, uttering no sound; but these were endeavoring now to slay, now to defame Him.
